You can find alot of clam shells along the river. In the old days they had businesses along the rivers which made "buttons" from the clam shells. Often you can find these old clam shells with the actual "holes" for the buttons in them.
Here's view looking down from one of the sandstone bluffs along the river. This was a smaller bluff, that we didn't jump off of due to the shallow water...as you can see!
Here is the cliff we jumped off of into the deeper parts of the river. I'll tell you, it looked alot higher from up top than it did from this pic down in the river!

The river was really low this year, making for some interesting paddling...or more likely, digging in rocks to push canoe out of mid-river shallows and into deeper water.
